If the Red Sox want to make a deal for a front-line starting pitcher, they will have to part with some of their top prospects.
One name that has been tossed around is catcher Blake Swihart.
Lou Merloni says the season-ending injury to catcher Christian Vasquez may have changed the team's plans for Swihart.
"I don't see them giving up Mookie Betts and Blake Swihart, especially now," said Merloni on The Baseball Show. "That's what changed a lot with this Christian Vazquez thing going down. I think he's a great player defensively but [Vazquez] had an opportunity to kind of show that the Sox could trade Blake Swihart if they really wanted to. Maybe Swihart could changed positions, he's that good defensively. Now that's all thorn out the window… I'm not sure you can trade Swihart now."
