A woman was struck by a broken bat in the Fenway Park stands Friday night and left the game with serious injuries.
The incident occurred in the second inning after Oakland Athletics infielder Brett Lawrie grounded out. His bat snapped at the handle and flew into the stands and struck the woman.
"It was just some bad luck," Lawrie said. "There's no time to react behind the dish. Unfortunately, everything is so close behind [home plate] and there's limited netting and it's important to be heads up."
