World Series MVP Steven Pearce graces this week's Sports Illustrated cover in the wake of his two-homer performance in the Red Sox' Series-clinching Game 5 victory.
“Now we deserve to be known as the greatest Red Sox team of all time,” infielder Brock Holt told SI's Tom Verducci after Game 5 Sunday night. “And if you want to put us with some of the best overall, we’ll take that. This team is special.”
Among the anecdotes in the cover story, Verducci goes on to tell the story of Alex Cora's dramatic team meeting in the aftermath of the Sox' 18-inning loss early Saturday morning at Dodger Stadium and how it was the inspiration for their final two victories in Games 4 and 5.
