Why don’t we just call it The Hall of Fan and Media Favorites at Patriot Place.
Before The Tuna beached in Foxboro the Patriots were a joke. We all know it. That’s why Robert Kraft bought the lovable pile of poo. He wanted to make it a winner — and he did.
However, it all started with Bill Parcells. He brought a new culture.
New England Patriots
As soon as Parcells swam upstream to New England, everything changed. Because whether you want to admit or not, he was a winner. His persona changed the persona of the team. People bought season tickets, we had hope, the Patsies had a freakin’ chance.
He brought them from the basement to the Super Bowl. And ... he brought them the greatest coach ever.
With Parcells there is no Bill Belichick. Period.
There is no Bill Belichick working out Lawyer Milloy in Washington, there is no Bill Belichick working with this defense and there is no Bill Belichick starting Tom Brady over Drew Bledsoe.
The anti-Parcells crowd will say, “That fat fish abandoned us during the Super Bowl ... for the Jets!” No argument.
And Belichick benched Malcolm Butler, which cost the Patriots a Super Bowl. Plus, Belichick screwed over the Jets. I don’t blame him, but he squirmed out of his agreement to take over as HC of the NYJ if Parcells left. That’s why the Pats had to trade for the guy.
Look, to be a great football coach, you have to be an egomaniacal, self-absorbed tyrant. Check all three boxes for these two, so don’t make Belichick out to be any more of a Boy Scout than Parcells.
The sad truth is Parcells will not get in the Hall at Patriots Place because the fans won’t put him in because of the way it ended. Too bad. I thought Patriot fans were better than that.
Bill Parcells should be in the Patriots Hall of Fame. The Patriots do not have six rings without him.
Period, end of story.
