Curt Schilling blasts Red Sox ownership for not inviting him to World Series ceremony

After originally claiming to be unbothered by the Red Sox' decision not to invite him to ceremonies prior to Game 2 of the World Series, in which several members of the 2004 championship team threw out first pitches, Curt Schilling took to Facebook early this morning and blasted --and insulted -- team ownership for his omission:

Schilling -- a key member of the 2004 team who won three games in the postseason despite an ankle injury that required surgery -- and his supporters believe the Red Sox' decision was based on his controversial and outspoken right-wing views. But team spokeswoman Zineb Curran said in an email to WEEI's Alex Reimer that this was an "informal" gathering, and that Schilling's absense wasn't deliberate.

"The (ceremonial first pitch) started with a couple of 2004 guys and then grew organically as we learned of other ’04 players who were planning to be at the ballpark tonight," she told Reimer. "There was no blanket invite to the entire team, and no slight intended to anyone not included."

Schlling's initial response, on Twitter, was mild.
