Tom E. Curran concludes his examination of the Patriots’ potential free agents. Now: Will Svitek
Will Svitek’s most conspicuous contribution to the Patriots season was being the battering ram for Chris Jones on the field goal that went bad in New York.
Signed in the offseason for offensive line depth, Svitek, 32, actually played in 13 games and made three starts. He didn’t draw much attention because he was a serviceable backup and didn’t mess stuff up.
He was signed to a one-year deal after missing the 2012 season with an injury. The Patriots have young depth that they’re developing but they always like to have a veteran offensive lineman and Svitek filled the bill nicely.
We’ll see if new line coach Dave DeGuglielmo has any veterans he’s worked with at other spots he has an affinity for and wants to bring aboard, but Svitek is certainly a possibility to be retained.
