Talking Points: Rodriguez shuts down Rangers

Share

STAR OF THE GAME: Eduardo Rodriguez

It's tough to imagine a better MLB debut - Rodriguez came within an out of eight shutout innings, allowing only three hits and two walks while striking out seven.

HONORABLE MENTION: Hanley Ramirez

Ramirez, who has been limited by a sore shoulder for the last few weeks, showed signs of life at the plate, driving a double to the gap in left-center before snapping a homerless streak of 85 at-bats with a solo shot in the sixth.

GOAT OF THE GAME: Texas bullpen

Starter Nick Martinez allowed just two runs over the first seven innings, but three Rangers relievers blew up in the eighth to cement the Red Sox' win.

TURNING POINT: Each time the Red Sox got him a single run in the fifth and sixth, Rodriguez answered with shutdown innings both times.

BY THE NUMBERS: Rodriguez turned in the longest scoreless outing by a Red Sox rookie pitcher since Billy Rohr, who tossed a complete game one-hit shutout in his debut in April of 1967.
