Kevin Garnett will not return to the Minnesota Timberwolves and his retirement announcement is expected shortly, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Garnett, 40, who began his 21-year NBA career with Minnesota before being traded to Boston and helping lead the Celtics to their 17th NBA title in 2008, had been discussing a buyout with the T’Wolves, ESPN’s Marc Stein reported earlier this week.
Garnett teamed with Paul Pierce and Ray Allen to form a new “Big Three” in Boston to lead the Celtics back to NBA prominence in his years with the Green (2007-13). He was traded, along with Pierce, to the Brooklyn Nets following the 2012-13 season and returned to Minnesota in February 2015.
