Hypothetically speaking, the Celtics land the #1 overall pick...Who do you think they should/would draft?
Monday May 19, 2014 12:00 Robert A.
12:02
A. Sherrod Blakely:
Robert A: Embiid or Wiggins. I would take Wiggins because he's the safer pick. But Embiid IMO has the potential to be special and is a bit more of a gamble which Ainge loves to do. I see them taking Embiid over Wiggins.

What would be an example (specifically) of a trade that you think could net the Celtics Kevin Love, and then who would be a subsequent target to fill the defensive center spot/need?
Monday May 19, 2014 12:04 Guest
12:07
A. Sherrod Blakely:
Some combination of K-Love and maybe Corey Brewer for Celtics 1st rd pick this year, future pick, Jeff Green and Brandon Bass. TWolves get upgrade at SF, good pick and pop guy for rubio who can't shoot (still), and they get a really good player in this draft and another pick down the road.

[Comment From Joe HJoe H: ]
Do you think we are going to see another Ray Allen, KG type Summer with a trade or signings? And if so do you think Pierce coming back would be likely
Monday May 19, 2014 12:08 Joe H
12:09
A. Sherrod Blakely:
Joe H: I do. Getting K-Love would be the first step towards those "fireworks" the celtics are looking for this summer. As for Pierce coming back, I don't see it happening; not as a player. He'll likely finish out back home in LA, most likely with Doc and the Clippers.

@Jimmy_Toscano @SherrodbCSN if you're Ainge and Cs get top 3 picks or even 1st, would you rather send it for Love or keep it? #CelticsTalk

@SherrodbCSN Do Celtics trade a top 3 pick if they get it #celticstalk
Monday May 19, 2014 12:10 ipm
12:11
A. Sherrod Blakely:
Wimbo Zamzami: If that pick is all that stands between getting K-Love, consider it moved. A 25 y.o. 3x time all-star who gets you 20/10/4 every night? Opportunities to get players like that don't come around too often, especially around here.
Monday May 19, 2014 12:11 A. Sherrod Blakely
12:12
A. Sherrod Blakely:
ipm: If it's a top-3 pick, can only see them moving it if it'll help land an already established superstar like Kevin Love.

[Comment From RitchieRitchie: ]
Let's say the Celtics get the top spot in the draft. Hypothetically, if Andrew Wiggins is a top 10 player in the NBA in 2-4 years, would it be a smart move to trade him on draft night for Kevin Love?
Monday May 19, 2014 12:13 Ritchie
12:15
A. Sherrod Blakely:
Ritchie: You're assuming he'll be a top 10 player in 2-4 yrs which is something nobody knows will or will not happen. All you know right now is that K-Love is 25 y.o., gets 20/10 most nights and will be HIGHLY MOTIVATED to win now.
Monday May 19, 2014 12:15 A. Sherrod Blakely
12:17
Jimmy Toscano (Moderator):
A. Sherrod... earlier you threw out a trade package for Love that DID NOT include Sully or Olynyk. You really think that's possible?
Monday May 19, 2014 12:17 Jimmy Toscano (Moderator)
12:17
[Comment From MilesMiles: ]
Can we get Love in any package that excludes Sully or KO?
Monday May 19, 2014 12:17 Miles
12:17
A. Sherrod Blakely:
Jimmy: That's my bad. One of them would have to be included.

[Comment From Gary (cortland)Gary (cortland): ]
if we don't get Emdbid, where do we get a rim protector?? in the draft?? you like Larry Sanders??
Monday May 19, 2014 12:18 Gary (cortland)
12:19
A. Sherrod Blakely:
Gary: Huge Larry Sanders fan and yes, he will be available via trade this summer. I think he's a guy that would thrive in a new city. I could definitely see him as a target this summer in case they can't get Love.

[Comment From RobRob: ]
Beyond the top of the draft guys...who did you see at the combine that is a no doubt in your mind solid NBA player, maybe for the 17th pick?
Monday May 19, 2014 12:19 Rob
12:23
A. Sherrod Blakely:
Rob: Great question!!! T.J. Warren of NCState, P.J. Hairston from the D-League (by way of UNC), Zach LaVine of UCLA really grew on me this week. I wasn't too high on him coming into the combine, but his athleticism is pretty special. James Young of Kentucky and the Hood kid from Duke will probably be gone by No. 17, but if they slide for whatever reason, can't see them getting past the Celtics.

[Comment From Tony FTony F: ]
Will Rondo have any impact on the decisions made on draft day regarding if we pick or trade the pick? What is the ideal situation for Rondo?

Is Rondo staying, what is the latest on him
Monday May 19, 2014 12:23 BAR
12:24
Would you trade the No. 1 pick in this NBA Draft in a deal for Kevin Love?
Yes! Duh.
 ( 62% )
Ehhhh... I'm skeptical. Is he enough?
 ( 17% )
No chance. Embiid/Parker/Wiggins is the future!
 ( 21% )

Monday May 19, 2014 12:24
12:25
A. Sherrod Blakely:
Tony F: The first part of your question, no. This is Ainge's call, all the way. For Rondo, he needs guys around him who are versatile scorers. Nobody sees the floor like him, so if you have the ability to get buckets in a lot of different ways, that's when he's at his best IMO.
Monday May 19, 2014 12:25 A. Sherrod Blakely
12:26
[Comment From tomtom: ]
Do you think Kevin Love can be a franchise player? He's a great offensive/bad defensive player and never carried the wolves to the play offs. Al Jefferson had more success with wolves/Jazz/Bobcats.
Monday May 19, 2014 12:26 tom
12:27
A. Sherrod Blakely:
BAR: For now, Rondo's staying. And to his credit, he's doing all the things a team leader should do this summer. He's been at practice facility a lot, working on his game but even more important, setting an example for the younger guys like Phil Pressey and Chris Babb and Chris Johnson, to follow.
Monday May 19, 2014 12:27 A. Sherrod Blakely
12:33
A. Sherrod Blakely:
tom: I do believe he can be a franchise player. The fact that they haven't been to the playoffs with him in six seasons is a huge knock against him, which is why I think he would come in very motivated to finally break through and help lead a team to the playoffs.
Monday May 19, 2014 12:33 A. Sherrod Blakely
12:33
[Comment From GaryGary: ]
Would any move for Love involve him saying he is going to be staying cause I think it would be crazy up a top pick for a rental player I don't want to be like the Lakers with Howard
Monday May 19, 2014 12:33 Gary
12:33
A. Sherrod Blakely:
Gary: Absolutely. Similar to what they did with KG in terms of getting an agreement for an extension done before all sides agreed to do the deal.
Monday May 19, 2014 12:33 A. Sherrod Blakely
12:34
[Comment From ElliotElliot: ]
So say we do get Love - who do we trade for next? Asik still a possibility?
Monday May 19, 2014 12:34 Elliot
12:35
A. Sherrod Blakely:
Elliot: Depends on how much has to be given up to get Love. Considering all the assets (9 picks next 5 drafts) and trade exceptions that Boston has acquired, I do believe they'll be in position to land at least one, high impact player this offseason.
Monday May 19, 2014 12:35 A. Sherrod Blakely
12:35
[Comment From MaxMax: ]
Hey Sherrod, what's your thoughts on Dante Exum. He seems like a tremendous talent but havent seen much tape on him
Monday May 19, 2014 12:35 Max
12:37
A. Sherrod Blakely:
Max: I really like this Exum kid, a lot. Talking with scouts and a few NBA execs about him in Chicago, the only real concern with him is how rocky will things get when he's facing a significantly better level of competition in the NBA. He's quick, long arms, great instincts and has a good feel for the game and what he needs to work on already. Depending on where he goes, I totally see him as an all-star in the very near future.
Monday May 19, 2014 12:37 A. Sherrod Blakely
12:38
[Comment From Dan TDan T: ]
Is there a possibility of trading for Love and then flipping Rondo? Love is only 25. In a way, he is closer to the young C's like Sully and Olynyk and Bradley. Easier to find guards than bigs as well.
Monday May 19, 2014 12:38 Dan T
12:43
A. Sherrod Blakely:
Dan T: If they deal for Love, you're keeping Rondo to see how they play together. I don't think it's easy at all finding a PG like Rondo. For all his flaws, there isn't a better postseason PG than Rondo. I think he's a special, special player. But he has to get healthier and regain that level of play he had before the ACL injury. He's getting there, man. He's getting there.

Edit to the following question from Javi: "...if we fall to positions 5-8* in the lottery." (Celtics cannot fall lower than 8th pick)
Monday May 19, 2014 12:44 Jimmy Toscano (Moderator)
12:44
[Comment From JaviJavi: ]
Do you think K. Love is still a possible trade even if we fall to positions 8-14 in the lottery? Thanks!
Monday May 19, 2014 12:44 Javi
12:45
A. Sherrod Blakely:
Javi: If the Celtics fall to 8, Love is still a possibility. But obviously the higher Boston would select this year, the more enticing the pick would be to the Timberpuppies.
Monday May 19, 2014 12:45 A. Sherrod Blakely
12:45
[Comment From MCMC: ]
How much money do you think Avery Bradley will get in free agency, and do you see him staying in Boston? I would love to grab Lance Stephenson for around 10-12 mill, rather than pay Bradley 7-10 I'm guessing he is looking for. Think Danny will be a player in FA? Thanks.
Monday May 19, 2014 12:45 MC
12:47
A. Sherrod Blakely:
MC: Bradley will get at least $8M a year. It may seem a lot, but I look at the market and what guys with similar skills are making. Orlando's Arron Afflalo who is pretty similar to Bradley, is making about $7.5M a year. If you can get Bradley for something in that range ($6-9M/season), that should be the going rate for him.
Monday May 19, 2014 12:47 A. Sherrod Blakely
12:48
A. Sherrod Blakely:
MC: As for Lance Stephenson, I would be very surprised if a team that's trying to win now, pays Lance that kind of money. I see him peaking out at maybe $10M, but more than that is wasted money.

[Comment From Dan TDan T: ]
Are the Celtics interested at all in trying to convince Melo next if they land Love first?
Monday May 19, 2014 12:50 Dan T
12:51
A. Sherrod Blakely:
Dan T: Fab Melo's not coming back ... :-) I love Carmelo's game, but I don't see any point in pursuing him unless you plan to move Rondo. Because those two, I just don't see it working out. Both need the ball in their hands A LOT to be effective.
Monday May 19, 2014 12:51 A. Sherrod Blakely
12:51
[Comment From ArmanArman: ]
How likely are the Celtics to resign Humps? If Sully and/or Olynyk is given away in a trade for Love, does that impact the Celtics likeliness to resign him?
Monday May 19, 2014 12:51 Arman
12:53
A. Sherrod Blakely:
Arman: It won't have any impact on whether Hump comes back or not. Hump is an unrestricted FA so he can sign with any team he wants to. He liked his time in Boston and told me multiple times he would like to stay. But it'll ultimately come down to what other teams are offering, and whether the Celtics can give him a multi-year deal in that same ball park.
Monday May 19, 2014 12:53 A. Sherrod Blakely
12:54
[Comment From MIchaelMIchael: ]
A. Sherrod, Sanders has a lot of money tied up for the next 4 years (4/$44M). Seems like a lot for 7pts/8 rbd/2blks a game. I would hope they find a way to flip a big contract(Wallace) with a pick or something in the deal. possible?
Monday May 19, 2014 12:54 MIchael
12:56
A. Sherrod Blakely:
Michael: Finding a taker for Wallace was tough even when he was healthy. Coming off ankle/knee surgery ... good luck! I throw Sanders into the same book as Houston's Omer Asik. His numbers aren't great, but he provides rim protection that doesn't always show up in the final stats.
Monday May 19, 2014 12:56 A. Sherrod Blakely
12:57
[Comment From Adam SAdam S: ]
Do you foresee the rockets/Celtics revisiting trade talks for rondo again? Given they lost in the first round....I'm thinking Parsons/Asik for Rondo/Jeff Green? I'm ready to move on from Rondo for the right price. Thoughts?
Monday May 19, 2014 12:57 Adam S
1:00
A. Sherrod Blakely:
Adam S: I totally expect Boston and houston to resume some level of discussions this summer. I've been a big Parsons fan for a while now. And Asik would fill a major void, obviously. But the Celtics would take a HUGE step back at the PG position.
Monday May 19, 2014 1:00 A. Sherrod Blakely

[Comment From DerronDerron: ]
Why are we so focused on Love? We are in dire need of true field to perimeter shooter to go along with Bayless at SG or at SF spot. So why aren't we more focused on landing Hayward?
Monday May 19, 2014 1:01 Derron
1:03
A. Sherrod Blakely:
Derron: Because Utah has given NO signals that they're willing to move him. And the Celtics needs are plentiful. They need a rim protector and more scorers as well as another shooter or two.
Monday May 19, 2014 1:03 A. Sherrod Blakely

[Comment From Adam SAdam S: ]
Thoughts on Marcus Smart if we were to move Rondo? I'm pretty high on him if we land in the 5-7 slot.
Monday May 19, 2014 1:04 Adam S
1:05
A. Sherrod Blakely:
Adam S: I am too. When I see him and talk with him, he reminds me of something Doc Rivers used to say Red Auerbach told him about and that's the need to have 'agitators.' Marcus Smart is an agitator, no doubt about it. I think he'd be a good pick-up if we're talking 5-8 range.
Monday May 19, 2014 1:05 A. Sherrod Blakely

[Comment From J. H.J. H.: ]
Assume we can keep only one: Sully or The Klynyk? I'd keep Olynyk. Your thoughts? Thanks Sherrod!
Monday May 19, 2014 1:06 J. H.
1:08
A. Sherrod Blakely:
J.H. Tough call on this one. For me, it would come down to which player the other team wanted. Because if you leave with either guy, I'm OK with that. I just think the two of them are so close in terms of value, I'd be cool either way.
Monday May 19, 2014 1:08 A. Sherrod Blakely

[Comment From ConradConrad: ]
Sherrod, whats the word on TJ Warren, and I heard you say that Hood would be pick before, and that really does sounds crazy to me, since he cannot created his own shots.
Monday May 19, 2014 1:09 Conrad
1:11
A. Sherrod Blakely:
Conrad: But Rodney Hood is long (potentially good defender) and he can flat-out shoot which is something teams are desperately looking to add. T.J. Warren gets buckets. Period. It doesn't always look pretty, but he's effective.

[Comment From GaryGary: ]
Kyle Anderson seems like a interesting player to me. I watched him in a tournament game in March Madness and he kind of reminds me of Magic Johnson tall player who can play point position too. I know he ain't on the level of Magic Johnson but would Boston give him at look at 17?
Monday May 19, 2014 1:12 Gary
1:16
A. Sherrod Blakely:
Gary: Absolutely. Kyle Anderson was one of my favorite players this past season. The knock on him is he's not a great athlete. But he's so damn smart out there on the floor. I don't think he'll ever be a star in this league. But he has the tools to be a solid, reliable role player for a long time. And yes,he's on the Celtics radar at 17.

Hi Sherrod, two part question: From the beginning Love seemed to have his heart set on LA, has there been any indication he would extend with Boston? Second question, would you give Rondo a max deal?
Monday May 19, 2014 1:18 Guest
1:21
A. Sherrod Blakely:
Guest: Too soon to know if he'll extend with Boston. There's no way they'd do a deal without that assurance. I'm not so sure he's still set on LAL who look even worst than the team he's with now, or the LAC who have their brand of problems. As for Rondo, I wouldn't give him a max deal now. Let's see if he can get back to where he was before tearing his ACL, and then go from there.

Whats it take for Paul to come home to Boston? Acquiring Love? Right Money? Right Role? Right amt of years on contract?
Monday May 19, 2014 1:23 Arman
1:26
A. Sherrod Blakely:
Arman: There's no one or two things that'll get Pierce back. Boston won't overpay to bring him back, that's for sure. It just makes more sense both for boston and Pierce to go their separate ways and bring him back whenever they decide to retire his jersey. He can still play, mind you. But I don't see him playing for the Celtics again.

What do you think about Boston potentially Drafting Noah Vonleh between 6-8 and maybe Doug McDermott at 17 ?
Monday May 19, 2014 1:27 Armando
1:28
A. Sherrod Blakely:
Armando: Vonleh at 6-8 might be a little high, but I'm convinced he'll be a decent pro. McDermott at 17? Not feeling that, either.
