Tim Thomas was in town Thursday night with his new team, the Florida Panthers. However, the hero of the Bruins' run to the Stanley Cup in 2011 was injured and didn't play.

The Bruins went ahead with a video tribute to Thomas in the third period. There had been some speculation that the quirky goaltender, who had a controversial exit from the Bruins, might not want to be recognized by his old team or by the TD Garden crowd.

Thomas and the Garden crowd had their moment. After the video tribute, the crowd gave Thomas a standing ovation and he appeared on the big screen, watching from the press box and acknowleged the salute. The ovation was nearly unanimous.

"The overwhelming majority wanted to show their gratitude toward Tim Thomas," Marc "The Beetle" Bertrand of 98.5 The Sports Hub told Michael Felger and Gary Tanguay on "Uno Sports Tonight."

"I hope this brings a little bit of final closure" to the Thomas saga in Boston, Bertrand said.

"It should," said Tanguay. "He's a weird guy, but a great goalie."
