Morning Skate: Some big-name Sharks available?

Here are all the links from around the hockey world, and what I’m reading, while hoping the worst is over for the people impacted on Capitol Hill today.

*Interesting piece from FOH (Friend of Haggs) Kevin Kurz on the options for Patrick Marleau and Joe Thornton if they don’t return to San Jose. I certainly don’t see either one of them as options for the Bruins, so don’t even ask.

*Some big decisions ahead for the Philadelphia Flyers as they decide what to do with players like Andrew MacDonald and winger Matt Read, and then get ready for a hugely important No. 2 overall pick in the draft.

*Is Evgeni Malkin the greatest Russian-born player in NHL history? It’s an interesting question where Malkin’s team accomplishments with the Penguins certainly need to be taken into account, but how can the best Russian-born NHL player not be one of the top-100 players in NHL history?

*Nice piece by Bruce Garrioch on the Anderson family in Ottawa as Nicholle continues on her road to recovery, which is far from over.

*The Hockey News is bullish on the Nashville Predators being back in the Stanley Cup Final next season, but I’m not so sure. The Blackhawks are going to bounce back in a big way and the Oilers are going to be a powerhouse next season. Mark it down.

*Do I like or loathe the USA Hockey’s World Junior Championship jerseys for an outdoor game that are made in the style of the Buffalo Bills? C’mon. What have the Bills ever done to deserve this kind of homage other than losing a bunch of Super Bowls? Wide right, I say.

*Dion Phaneuf isn’t expected to waive his no-movement clause to make himself eligible for the expansion draft, and that means he’ll be back with the Ottawa Senators next season after finding a comfy home there. Fans can be angry at Phaneuf if they want, but take it up with the executive that traded for him in the first place knowing he had the NMC.

*For something completely different: Great news that the "Dark Phoenix " movie has a director and all of the returning X-Men players you’d want to see outside of Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine.
