Haggerty's Morning Skate: Can Caps win around Ovechkin?

Here are the links from around the hockey world, and what I’m reading while thoroughly enjoying the hour-plus I spent listening to Hozier for the first time last night at Boston Calling. I had heard “Take Me To Church” just like everybody else, but he’s got a great catalog of bluesy, soul songs, and did one of the best covers of the Beatles’ “Blackbird” that I’ve ever heard.

*Dan Rosen catches up with Washington Capitals owner Ted Leonsis about building a winner around Russian scorer Alex Ovechkin.

*PHT writer and (FOH) Friend of Haggs Jason Brough has Quebec City going under the microscope as expansion looms over them. You have to hope they get a team quickly because they would successfully embrace it just like Winnipeg did when the Jets returned.

*Here’s the Hockey News with the top-5 underrated players and top-5 overrated players heading into the 2015-16 NHL season. I’m not sure if it’s a good thing or a bad thing that there isn’t a single Bruins player on the list.

*Four UMass hockey players were arrested for things as wild as punching a police cruiser, and being in possession of a counterfeit $100 bill.

*Semyon Varlamov is in midseason form after the team visits Vail. That’s a good thing because they’ll need a big season out of their goaltender.

*Anders Nilson is adding to a crowded goalie picture for the Edmonton Oilers as that competition will have a major impact on the fate of the talented Oil crew.

*For something completely different: Mark Wahlberg bombs in telling a joke to Pope Francis. At least he didn’t pull the “Say hi to your mother for me” line from the Saturday Night Live skit with Pope Francis.
