Red Sox fans won't have to watch Kevin Youkilis field grounders in pinstripes for a while - or perhaps ever again.
Youkilis, who has played in just 28 games this season for the Bronx Bombers will have back surgery to repair a herniated disk, and could miss anywhere from 10-12 weeks, according to the Yankees' MLB.com writer Bryan Hoch.
On the season, Youkilis hit .219 (23-105) with two homers and eight RBI. He hadn't played in a game since June 13, when he went 0-7 with three strikeouts. He was placed on the DL on June 14 with a back injury, the second time this season.
