The Red Sox signed 11 of their 2013 draft picks on Wednesday, including first round selection Trey Ball.
Ball, a left-handed pitcher out of New Castle (Ind.) Chrysler High School, was selected No. 7 overall by the Sox on June 6, but was forced to decide between signing with the Sox or playing college baseball at the University of Texas, where he had already signed a national letter of intent.
The potential conflict was put to rest early Wednesday when Ball's father, Ron Ball, told The Star Press -- his hometown paper in Indiana -- that he expected his son to sign with the team later Wednesday afternoon.
The Red Sox also signed eighth round choice Forrestt Allday (CF); ninth-rounder Kyle Martin (RHP); 10th round pick Taylor Grover (RHP); 11th round choice Carlos Asuaje (SS); 14th-rounder Jake Romanski (C); 15th round pick Bryan Hudson (CF); 18th round pick Joe Gunkel (RHP); 21st-rounder Reed Gragnani (2B); 24th round pick Jantzen Witte (3B); and 34th round choice Daniel Bethea (C).
