Forgive Jake Peavy for not being at the top of the dugout steps cheering on his team as Will Middlebrooks knocked in the go-ahead run in the 8th inning Wednesday night.

He was back in the clubhouse at that point, fighting off an illness and receiving fluids due to dehydration, according to

Peavy did not factor into the decision, a 4-3 Red Sox win, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits, including a 2-run homer, and 4 walks over 6.0 innings. He also struck out four batters.

Peavy went out to pitch the seventh, but after loading the bases (two hits and a walk) without recording an out, he was pulled at 97 pitches on the night.

Chris Capuano came on in relief, and got Roger Bernadina to ground out to second, scoring a run. Burke Bedenhop then came on and got the next two batters to ground out.

In the bottom of the 8th inning, A.J. Pierzynski doubled home Mike Napoli to tie the game, and Middlebrooks singled in Jonny Gomes for the eventual game-winning run.

“€œI didn’€™t want to put my team in the position I did there in the seventh,” Peavy told reporters. “But at the end of the day that’€™s why we’€™re a team and sometimes you’€™re not going to be able to get it done on your own and that was obviously the case tonight.”€

Peavy gave up his 7th home run on the season, and has given up a home run in each start this season.
