Back spasms suffered during Thursday's game against the Jays in Toronto, followed by a plane ride to Tampa Bay will not keep David Ortiz out of the lineup Friday night.
Ortiz is in, batting third for the Sox with David Price on the mound.
Ortiz was taken out of the game in the 9th inning on Thursday after a check swing. It was later determined that back spasms was the cause.
The Red Sox could certainly use Ortiz. The team is looking to rebound after a tough series in Toronto, and faces a red-hot Rays with David Price on the mound.
Ortiz and Price have a history. This is the first time Price has faced the Sox since May 30, when his beaning of Ortiz eventually led to a benches-clearing brawl in the fourth inning of a game the Sox won, 3-2, in 10 innings.
After the game, Ortiz said he had no respect for Price, believing that Price intentionally threw at him as retribution for the two home runs he hit off him in the ALDS last year. Price did not admit to intentionally throwing at Ortiz. Later that game, Brandon Workman intentionally threw at Evan Longoria, missing high and behind him.
It will certainly be an interesting one tonight.
