BOSTON - Will Middlebrooks and David Ross are Jimmy Fund Co-Captains, attending fundraising events, visiting patients, and building support for cancer care and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Today is a big day for both of them and many others as WEEI and The Jimmy Fund host the Radio-Telethon at Fenway Park, where awareness is spread and money is raised over a two-day stretch. As of now, over $2 million has been raised since Tuesday.

Numerous patients are interviewed on air, with their inspiring stories told to all. Players on the Red Sox also meet with patients at Fenway Park, though this is just par for course for Middlebrooks and Ross who have done stuff like this all season.

Middlebrooks went on WEEI earlier on Wednesday to talk about being a Co-Captain and how much not only the kids enjoy it but he does. He also said it really puts things in perspective if he's having a rough day, or in this case a rough season.

Middlebrooks is out of Wednesday's lineup after straining his hamstring Tuesday night. Farrell is calling him injury day-to-day with the injury.

"We don't feel like this is a longterm thing but we'd be putting him in jeopardy if we were to start him tonight," Farrell said.

For Ross, it's more good news on an already good day. He was activated by the team for Wednesday's game after spending time on DL with plantar fasciitis. He'll catch and bat ninth.

Mike Napoli is also out of the lineup Wednesday as he's suffering from back spasms.

In order to get an extra fielder, the Red Sox optioned Steven Wright back to Pawtucket and called out outfielder Alex Hassan.

They also optioned catcher Daniel Butler back to Pawtucket with Ross being activated.

Here's the lineup:

Holt 3B
Pedroia 2B
Ortiz DH
Cespedes LF
Nava RF
Johnson 1B
Bogaerts SS
Betts CF
