All of a sudden, things changed pretty quickly at Fenway Park in the bottom of the eighth inning.
David Ortiz’s grand slam to tie the game at 5-5 would lead the way for a 6-5 walk-off win for the Red Sox to tie the American League Championship Series at one game apiece.
Jessica Moran and Sean McAdam joined Playoff Central to discuss the late-game heroics from Ortiz.
“They are still going to face Justin Verlander in game three on Tuesday night, but they have to feel a whole lot better about themselves,” McAdam said. “You can’t imagine a bigger swing in momentum in the span of five hitters as we saw happen tonight in the eighth inning.”
Before the eighth inning though, the Red Sox again continued to struggle at the plate, this time against Max Scherzer.
“With Scherzer out there, it was strikeout after strikeout after strikeout,” Moran said. “The Sox proved you need to get to the bullpen to be successful because the Tigers starting rotation out there proving they are no joke. They are the real deal.”
