It was the first day of training camp for the New England Patriots on Thursday and it brought more news than the team captains' press conferences.

In conjunction with the return to football activities, the team announced the re-signing of free agent Tyronne Green. The 27-year-old offensive lineman is a four-year NFL veteran who had originally been picked up by the Patriots on May 13 before being released 18 days later.

Two months in the future, and the Patriots have decided to give Green another look. This was bad news for rookie offensive lineman Matt Stnkiewitch, who was released because of Green's arrival. Stinkiewitch was an undrafted free agent out of Penn State who had caught on with the Patriots in early May, but even though he started all 25 games at center during his final two years at school, it was not enough to retain his services.

Green had spent the previous four years playing both guard positions for the San Diego Chargers. He started at left guard for the team in 13 games last season, a solid bit of experience, even if it was on an offensive line that was basically the Arizona Cardinals of the AFC.

The roster is still at 90 now, and it is a long way before it is cut down to the game day 53, but for Green, a guy who was out of an NFL job as recently as yesterday, it's a start.
