The Patriots released wide receiver LaQuan Williams on Friday, whose legal troubles we reported Thursday.

He was originally signed by the Patriots on Nov. 5. Williams is a two-year vet of the NFL, both seasons with the Ravens. They released him on Sept. 6, 2013. He's played 23 NFL games, finishing with four receptions for 46 yards and nine special teams tackles.

The Patriots release of Williams opens up a spot on the 53-man roster. It most likely means that Shane Vereen will be activated to the roster to fill that spot, and he could be active on Monday night against the Panthers.
