At this rate, Scarlet Knights will have overrun the lighthouse at Gillette Stadium by minicamp.

The Patriots claimed former Rutgers offensive tackle Kevin Haslam off of waivers from the Chargers on Wednesday. In a corresponding move, they released tackle RJ Mattes.

If it feels like the Patriots have more than a few Rutgers products on their 90-man roster, it's because they do. Haslam is the eighth Scarlet Knight to ride into Foxboro. Here are the others, if you're keeping track: corner Devin McCourty, defensive lineman Justin Francis, 2013 draft picks corner Logan Ryan, safety Duron Harmon and linebacker Steve Beauharnais, and rookie free-agents receiver Mark Harrison and corner Brandon Jones.

Haslam is 6-foot-5 and 304 pounds. He played five games for the Jaguars as a rookie in 2010 before landing on injured reserve and losing the entire 2011 season to injury. He made three starts at left tackle for the Bolts' injury-riddled offensive line last season.
