N.E Tailgate: Patriots-Bengals preview

Another week, and another test upcoming for the New England Patriots’ defense.

After facing Atlanta’s high-powered offense last week, the Patriots will now set their eyes on stopping Andy Dalton, A.J. Green and the rest of the Bengals.

Glenn Ordway, Fred Smerlas, and Steve DeOssie previewed the week five match against 2-2 Cincinnati on New England Tailgate.

“You can bet that they are going to do a lot with [Aqib] Talib on [Green],” DeOssie said. “They are going to do some of that over-under coverage they did on Julio Jones, where they have a cornerback underneath. He’s also a guy, just like Julio Jones, he can go up and catch a pass that sometimes defensive backs can’t reach.”

Dalton will lead the Bengals from under center, and even though he has never thrown an interception in the red zone in his career, he is seen more as a game manager than a game changer.

“He doesn’t have the intangibles,” Smerlas said. “He doesn’t anticipate the breaking of receivers a lot of times. He doesn’t make dynamic throws. He plays it really safe, that’s why they don’t have a lot of interceptions in the red zone. But when you are a quarterback sometimes you have to be a gun-slinger, and he is not. He is not a great quarterback. He is in the middle of the pack.”
