With the New England Patriots defense missing several key players, Devin McCourty has step up big to lead the defense, especially the secondary.

McCourty made one of the better plays you will see against the Dolphins, when in midair, he tipped a near interception to teammate Marquice Cole who came down just inbounds with the pick.

McCourty joined Tom E. Curran on Quick Slants to talk about the highlight reel play.

“That was probably a once in a lifetime play,” McCourty said. “Just to be able to make a play like that, I think [Cole] did a great job just keeping his feet inbounds. Soon as we got to the sideline, we were looking at the instant replay, he was like, ‘I hope we win number one on top 10 ESPN.’ Instant classic right there.”

With the Pittsburgh Steelers coming to Foxboro Sunday, McCourty is just trying to focus on their AFC foe instead of the bye week coming up after the Steelers game.

“I’m not going to lie, Sunday off is going to sound great next week,” McCourty said. “But the key thing around here is going into the bye week the right way. We have to really prepare for this team, Pittsburgh. They played well the last couple of weeks, so we know they’re going to come in here ready to get a big win.”
