The Boston Celtics wrap up their 2013 preseason schedule when the Brooklyn Nets come to town on October 23 for an exhibition set to tip-off at seven. The game was thought to be the much-anticipated return of Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to the parquet.
But Celtics fans may have to settle for the Big Ticket – at least for that night – and wait until January 26 for the return of Pierce, who spent 15 seasons in Boston.
"I'll [go to Boston] just one time next year," Pierce told Mike Mazzeo of ESPN New York.
The Nets don’t come to the Garden until January 26. While Pierce only wants to do it once, he wishes the game could’ve been played earlier in the regular season, saying he wants to ‘get it out of the way’.
“When you gotta go through something tough, I've always been a guy that just wants to get it out of the way,” Pierce added. “It's gonna be in the back of my mind.”
The Celtics and Nets tip off three other times this season, one other meeting coming at the Garden on March 7. They play in Brooklyn on December 10 and March 21.
