Paul Pierce wanted to finish his career as a Celtic.
But Danny Ainge had other plans, as he traded Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Jason Terry to the Brooklyn Nets, starting a rebuilding effort in the process. At a press conference on Thursday, Pierce admitted that it's taking some time for the move to sink in and that he was hoping to finish his career in Boston. But Pierce also said he doesn't blame Ainge for the trade, according to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe.
"If I was a GM and I looked at the situation, I think I probably would have made the same decision," Pierce said.
The situation seems to have worked out for both sides. The Celtics got a jump start on their rebuilding effort, while Pierce and Garnett will have a chance to compete for another championship. Pierce may have wanted to stay in Boston, but he's starting to get used to the idea of making another run at the title.
