Peter Chiarelli and the Bruins have agreed to a four-year extension that will keep the general manager in Boston through the 2017-18 season.

Chiarelli, who was hired in 2006, had one year remaining on his contract before receiving his extension.

In six of Chiarelli’s seven seasons as general manager, the B's have made the playoffs, including two Stanley Cup Finals appearances and one Cup win 2011.

Chiarelli was a player agent and director of legal relations for the Senators before being named assistant to the general manager in Ottawa.
