BOSTON -- When Max Scherzer struck out the side in the second inning of Game 6 of the ALCS Saturday night, it was one for the books. The record books.

The strikeouts of Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Jonny Gomes and Stephen Drew were the 49th, 50th and 51st strikeouts of the series by Tigers starting pitchers, breaking the LCS record of 49 set by the 1991 Atlanta Braves.

In addition, they were the 63th, 64th and 65th strikeouts of the series by Red Sox batters, breaking the LCS record of 63 set by the 2007 Cleveland Indians.
