New England's selection of Dominique Easley with the 29th overall pick in the NFL Draft was surprising for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the fact that the Patriots actually made a pick instead of trading it away for six picks in the 2032 Draft.
Gary Tanguay and Kirk Minihane are on Arbella Early Edition to discuss some of Easley's personality "quirks."
Ben Volin of the Boston Globe conducted an interview with a Palm Beach Post writer who used to cover the Florida Gators. The writer shared this, um, interesting nugget.
“After a big win at Florida State, [Easley] emerged from the locker room with a giant barrel of animal crackers under his arm and spoke of the afterlife. He carried a “Chucky” doll at all times and treated it like an actual child. He will start a fight with anybody on any opposing team at any time. He yelled something that cannot be printed here at the Tennessee Band.”
Bill Belichick should have fun with that...
“[He] doesn’t seem like a Belichick guy,” says Tanguay.
Minihane isn't concerned.
“He seems a little goofy,” says Minihane. “If he’s great, that stuff doesn’t matter.”
On a team that doesn't tolerate distractions, it will be interesting to see how Easley's personality fits with the other players.
"I don’t think you can take what was in Ben’s article lightly," says Tanguay. "To me, that’s a little concerning. You’ve seen guys come in like this. Adalius Thomas. He wasn’t on the reservation... This is a little quirky. You can be crazy, you can be nutty, but this is just a little quirky. He may not be on the same page, may not even be on the same planet… to go along with two blown out knees.”
The real question is, how long until we can see a picture of Easley and Belichick watching film in Patriots hoodies while munching on animal crackers and playing with dolls?
