The Boston fan's thoughts on Boston sports
The newest poll is out regarding Boston sports fans and their likes/dislikes/thoughts about their favorite (and least favorite) sports team over the last year.
Channel Media and Market Research polled more than 13,000 fans on a variety of Boston sport-related topics. We took a few of the highlights to give you an idea of the general state of the Boston sports fan.
Take a look.
AND THE FAVORITE TEAM IS . . .
Football still rules in New England, as the Patriots make up 42% of the answers for favorite teams. But that's actually a 2% hit from 2013.
The Red Sox also took a three-percent hit, falling to 30% from last year.
One team jumped up four-percent - those Boston Bruins who now find themselves the favorite team 21% of the time. That's a 10-percent jump from two years ago, and the only team that has seen an increase in fandom in that two-year span.
The Celtics came in at 6% with the Revs at 1%.
When it comes to Boston teams' owners, some are in the fans' good graces while others . . . not so much.
Robert Kraft checks in at the top, as 43-percent of the people polled said he's doing the best job. The guys over at Fenway Sports Group? They took a drop from 32-percent to 18-percent this year.
OVERALL GRADE FOR THE RED SOX
This year's Red Sox season is the polar opposite from last years, and that shows in the fan poll.
While 67-percent gave the Red Sox an "A+" or "A" for the 2013 season, that number falls to just 3% this season - and even that sounds way too high. The most popular grade for the 2014 Sox is a C (22%).

SOX HANDLING OF JON LESTER
There are no shortage of opinions when it comes to how the Red Sox handled the Jon Lester situation. Some feel like they should have paid him at the beginning of the years. Some think they shouldn't have traded him. Others are fine with the trade. Here are some numbers.
On a scale of 1-7 (excellent-poor), 28% gave the decision to not re-sign/part ways with Lester a score of 1 (poor) while just 3% gave it a 7 (excellent). The most popular number, however, was a 4.
55% gave the trade for Lester a score of 5-7.
63% think the Red Sox should try to get Lester back for 2015
BRUINS PARTING WITH SHAWN THORNTON
The Bruins lost a top-line forward and fourth-line forward over the offseason. But fans really took to Shawn Thornton over his years with the team, and they're not happy he's in Florida now.
23% gave the Bruins' decision to not re-sign Thornton a 1, while just 3% gave it a 7. 22% gave it a 4.
Fans were much more understanding of losing Iginla, as a combined 75% gave it a 4-6.
PLAYER CELTICS FANS WANTED THE MOST
This one hurts . . . 21% those polled were really hoping the Celtics would land Kevin Love. Love was officially traded to the Cavs last week. Dream on . . .
