Curran: Offense has looked ‘flat' so far

The Patriots offense has scuffled this preseason. It's dispiriting, though the absence of core players like Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman has played a significant role in their struggles. Still, they have Tom Brady, and Patriots Insider Tom E. Curran is a little surprised by their lack of success.

“One touchdown in 12 drives, and it’s not just the one touchdown. There’s no field goal drives, there’s very few first downs to show,” said Curran. “And there is really, honestly, if you take it all in, a different tenor than you would normally see, not just for a defending Super Bowl champion, but for any Patriots team.

“And I think a lot of it has to be attributable to what’s going on off the field. And we would be ignorant to say they’ve completely compartmentalized it and it’s no issue at all.”
