Stand down, Pats fans; there's nothing Kraft could do

Settle down, Patriot honks. No matter how much you want to believe it, there's nothing Robert Kraft could do -- for that matter, there's nothing John Wayne could do, or John McClane could do, or even Al Davis could do -- to get the NFL to return those draft choices to the Patriots.

Oh, it might make you feel better to see a fully enraged Robert banging his fist on the Patriot pulpit, screaming for justice on behalf of his football team and quarterback. But it would end there.

As soon as Roger Goodell, then a loyal follower of the Kraft cause, reportedly ordered Jeff Pash and his henchmen to destroy the Spygate home moves of Uncle Ernie Adams and Bill Belichick, the Patriots’ fate was sealed. It's just that -- since the tapes were destroyed nine years ago -- no one knew then how it would impact the future.

(“Hey, Marty, get the DeLorean and let’s go back and do this thing right this time. “ Sorry, only a movie.)

I can remember when Patriot fans were so ticked off because the Patriots “gave up” and “laid down” when Kraft went to the podium in San Francisco last year and surrendered. It looked bad, I know, but at the time I felt he had no choice but to play ball with his billionaire buddies in the sandbox. However, for him to think the NFL would go easy on Brady if he cooperated was naive. "Naive" is the last thing I'd call Robert Kraft; to borrow a phrase from Donald Trump, Kraft is a real shark, a killer.

Not this time.

So stand down, you hoodie-wearing honks. Relax. Getting angry over this will do nothing but skyrocket your blood pressure. And it won’t change a thing.
