Jayson Tatum at UNC? Roy Williams at least tried to make it happen.
Williams chatted with NBC Sports Boston's Abby Chin during the Celtics' preseason opener in Charlotte. The Tar Heels head coach said he tried to recruit Tatum, but some bad decision-making led to him picking Duke.
"Just a fantastic player, 6-7, 6-8, could be your point guard, could shoot it from the outside, can take it to the basket," Williams said about Tatum. "They beat us two out of three so I'll always remember that, but at their place when we played in the regular season, he just dominated the game. I tried to recruit him really hard, but he made a bad decision."
Williams can at least take solace in the fact Tatum reportedly "strongly considered UNC."
