Rod Brind'Amour gives candid take on Hurricanes' Game 3 loss to Bruins

The Carolina Hurricanes' surprising run deep into the 2019 Stanley Cup playoffs is on the verge of ending in disappointing fashion.

The Canes have no more room for error after the Bruins took a commanding 3-0 series lead with a 2-1 victory in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference final at PNC Arena on Tuesday night. Carolina played its best game of the series and even dominated play for long stretches, earning a strong advantage in shot attempts, shots on goal, scoring chances and high-danger scoring chances.

Controlling the majority of the game on home ice and still losing, especially by a slim one-goal margin, is a real gut-punch for the Hurricanes. Carolina head coach Rod Brind'Amour gave a candid assessment of the situation in his postgame press conference.

“It’s tough right now,” Brind’Amour told reporters. “I told the guys, this sucks. There’s no way around it. I’m not going to sugarcoat it. We got kicked in the you-know-where, and it’s going to hurt for a while. We’ll come here tomorrow, pick the pieces up, give our best effort, and see what happens.”

The Bruins have won six playoff games in a row for the first time since 1978, and three of the four previous postseasons in which they've accomplished that feat ended with Stanley Cup championships.

Boston is firing on all cylinders right now, led by the tremendous performances of B's goalie Tuukka Rask. It's hard to imagine the Hurricanes pulling off a historic comeback, but anything is possible, and the Bruins' veteran core knows that as well as anybody.
