Practice-squad spot opens for Patriots as Street signs with Colts

The Patriots had a spot on their 10-man practice squad become available on Wednesday morning when the Colts signed receiver Devin Street.

Street was one of three wideouts on the New England practice squad ,along with seventh-round pick Devin Lucien and recently-acquired DeAndrew White. Street, 25, was signed by the Patriots on Sep. 5. At 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, he has similar measurements to former Patriots receiver Aaron Dobson and could have potentially provided the team with a long, outside threat had he been called up to the 53-man roster at some point.

Colts receiver Donte Moncrief suffered a shoulder injury in Week 2 and may be forced to miss time, meaning Street, a fifth-round pick of the Cowboys in 2014, could be in line to see meaningful work as early as this weekend.

The Patriots could now potentially add a quarterback to their locker room without taking up a spot on their 53-man roster. The open practice-squad spot could also be spent on one of a handful of players who worked out for the team earlier this week, including rookie fullback Glenn Gronkowski, brother of Patriots All-Pro tight end Rob Gronkowski.

Stay tuned.
