Chicago Blackhawks All-Star forward and legendary party guy Patrick Kane has officially signed on with HC Biel and will be playing on the same team with Bruins prodigy Tyler Seguin in the Swiss-A League.
Biel announced the signing of Kane on Tuesday afternoon, and indicated that Kanes salary will be privately funded similar to the deal signed by Seguin last month.
Seguin has 14 points (6 goals, 8 assists) in 10 games for Biel and celebrated the signing of Kane with four points and a hat trick against HC Ambri Piotta on Tuesday night. This comes only days after Seguin scored a goaland also was serving in the penalty box when Patrice Bergeron scored a power-play goal in the closing seconds of the first period -- in a losing effort to Bergeron and HC Lugano in a Saturday showdown between the two Bs superstars.
The Kane signing gives Biel the best duo in the Swiss-A League outside of HC Davos Joe Thornton and Rick Nash, and should give them a leg up in a potential rematch with Bergerons club.
The one potential down side to a SeguinKane combo skating together: the Blackhawks winger has a checkered past in the off-ice behavior department including an alleged drunken assault and robbery of a Buffalo cab driver and an intoxicated romp through the University of Wisconsin campus recorded on camera phones and flip-cams before it was posted in a Deadspin story.
Seguin is a budding 20-year-old hockey star abroad for the first time in his career, and has been under the wing of countless veteran forwards on the Bs roster during his time in Boston.
Teaming him with Kane could be a troubling pairing on the surface, but there are a couple of things to keep in mind: the Kane party tsunami has never caught Jonathan Toews in its undertow during their successful stint together in Chicago, and Seguin has had a tamer version of Kane, Brad Marchand, as a running partner over the last two seasons.
At the very least the Swiss hockey fans of Biel are going to be witness to some pretty electric offensive hockey over the next few weeksmonths as the NHL lockout continues to roll on.
