BOSTON - Quotes, notes and stars from the Red Sox' 9-5 loss to the Baltimore Orioles:

QUOTES

"It's a completely different ballgame if I catch that foul ball. I just overran in. I need to stay back on that ball and I need to make that play.'' - Blake Swihart on failing to catch a pop-up by Mark Trumbo in the fourth. A few pitches later, Trumbo hit a two-run homer.

"You think I am (panicking)? Look at my face. . . No pain, no gain. It's going to be fine. I know our pitching staff is going to bounce back and put it together.'' - David Ortiz on whether he's ready to panic.

"Man, we're seven games, dude. There shouldn't be anybody worried about (our rotation). We've got the best pitcher in the world right now on our team.'' - Clay Buchholz.

"The only mistake I made that stands out in my head is the last guy I faced. I tried to go in and didn't get it there and he got a double. I felt like I had good stuff. I felt like I threw the ball pretty well tonight.'' - Buchholz.

"Seemingly, every pitch that we mislocate, they have not missed in the two games so far.'' - John Farrell on the Orioles.

NOTES:

* David Ortiz's double in the eighth was No. 293 of his career at Fenway, passing Wade Boggs and moving into third place in ballpark history.

* Lefty reliever Tommy Layne became the last player on the Opening Day roster to get into a game, pitching a perfect ninth inning.

* Tuesday night's loss marked the first time all season that the Red Sox allowed 10 or more hits.

* Ortiz became the first player 40 or older to hit three homers in his first seven games of a season since Hank Aaron in 1974.
