Knicks fans fill MSG with ‘We want Kyrie' chants

When the Knicks traded Kristaps Porzingis, they announced to both their fans and the world their intention to go all-in on free agency come summertime.

Kyrie Irving is a natural target for New York. He's from New Jersey, and has talked about wanting his own team and spotlight. There's no bigger stage than Madison Square Garden, Knicks fans will claim.

Kyrie wasn't too happy when asked about his free agency plans on Friday, but got quite a reception in New York when the Celtics came to town on Friday night.

Knicks fans gave Irving a huge ovation when he touched the ball for the first time, and started "We want Kyrie" chants at several points throughout the game.

This is all part of the game with free agents; Celtics fans cheered Gordon Hayward and Kevin Durant when they were free-agents-to-be a few years back.

Whether Kyrie plans to leave or not, nobody knows. The timeline of his comments isn't conclusive, and his promise to re-sign back in September doesn't hold much water nearly six months later. But Knicks fans are doing their best to make sure Kyrie knows he would be appreciated should he choose to don Knicks colors.
