Knee injury could keep Turner out of preseason opener

The Boston Celtics may be even more short-handed at the wing position than anticipated for their preseason opener with Evan Turner suffering a left knee injury in practice on Monday.

Turner, who along with the rest of the Celtics is in Milan to face Olimpia Milano on Tuesday, is questionable for the matchup.

Boston’s Perry Jones III is with the team despite suffering a knee injury shortly before the team left for Milan. His status for Tuesday’s game is also uncertain.

Fortunately for Boston, this is the preseason -- when success isn’t determined by wins and losses.

Turner’s potential absence may result in more playing time for Marcus Smart, Isaiah Thomas and potentially Terry Rozier as the third point guard.

Regardless of who is on the floor for the Celtics, holding their own against an experienced squad like Olimpia Milano will not be easy.

“I’m anticipating getting spun in circles in some circumstances of how advanced they are with sharing the ball, with the way they play together, with the actions they run,” Celtics head coach Brad Stevens told reporters on Monday. “They’ve been together longer. Some of those guys on their team are older, experienced guys. It’ll be interesting if we show our youth.”
