The Red Sox announced today that they optioned shortstop Jose Iglesias and first baseman Lars Anderson to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Much has been made of the news that Bobby Valentine and Ben Cherington disagreed on what to do with Iglesias to start the season. Valentine wanted Iglesias with the big league club. Cherington and the Red Sox front office wanted Iglesias to start in the minors.

Iglesias hit .200 this spring with the Red Sox, with 5 hits in 25 at bats.
Mike Aviles will now be the team's starting shortstop on Opening Day. Aviles is hitting .333 with seven doubles and has made one error. Nick Punto will be Aviles' primary backup at short.
The club also reassigned right-handed pitchers Justin Germano and Doug Mathis and outfielder Josh Kroeger to minor league camp.
