BOSTON – The Maine Red Claws’ postseason ended sooner than anticipated, and John Holland had a lot to do with it.

His play for the Canton Charge earned the former Boston University star a call-up to the Boston Celtics.

“He’s a good player, he brings shooting,” said Celtics head coach Brad Stevens. “He brings pretty good size for a perimeter player. He’s another person we can add as depth should we need some perimeter depth.”

Holland, the 40th D-League call-up this season, led the Boston University Terriers to the 2011 NCAA Tournament as a senior which included him being named the America East Conference Player of the Year. He has played professionally in France, Spain and Turkey along with being in the San Antonio Spurs training camp in 2014.

But the 6-foot-5 guard/forward really jumped on to the Celtics’ radar during the D-League playoffs when he averaged 28.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists while shooting 62.5 percent from the field and 58.8 percent on 3s.

Even before a series of breakout performances in the D-League playoffs, the 27-year-old Holland had a strong regular season for the Canton Charge, averaging 16.0 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.2 steals while appearing in 37 games.
