Cold weather to impact Revolution home opener? Brad Friedel weighs in

The New England Revolution will be aiming for their first win of the 2019 MLS season when they host the Columbus Crew in the home opener at Gillette Stadium.

The weather forecast calls for cold temperatures in the high 30s or low 40s at the 2 p.m. ET kickoff, and that's not the most ideal environment for a soccer game. That said, Revolution coach Brad Friedel doesn't think the weather will have much of an impact on the outcome of the match.

"We trained outdoors today, so maybe that's going to be a step in the right direction. It wasn't very warm today," Friedel said Thursday during his appearance on 98.5 The Sports Hub midday show "Zolak & Bertrand."

"I don't think it'll have any bearing from our side of things. I think if we were playing a team from a warmer climate it would be a pretty big advantage for ourselves. But we're playing against Columbus, who has the cold weather as well. So, I think both teams will be able to adapt to the weather."

The Revolution opened their 2019 campaign last weekend with a 1-1 draw on the road to FC Dallas.

New England is hoping to return to the playoffs for the first time since the 2015 season, and Saturday's performance was an encouraging start toward that goal.
