For the second consecutive year, runners of the Boston Marathon will have to battle the elements.

The 2019 Boston Marathon kicks off Monday with heavy rain and even some scattered thunderstorms in the forecast. The good news: The most severe weather is expected to dissipate by 9 a.m. ET in Hopkinton, Mass., where runners of the 123rd Boston Marathon begin their 26.2-mile journey to Boston's Boylston Street.

This year's group will feature several notable names, including 2018 women's champion Des Linden, former New England Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi and NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson.
