Auburn coach calls new Patriots QB Jarrett Stidham ‘steal' of the NFL Draft

Did the New England Patriots find Tom Brady's eventual successor when they selected Auburn quarterback Jarrett Stidham in the fourth round (133rd overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft this weekend?

It's obviously too early to tell, but there's a lot to like about Stidham's skill set. His coach at Auburn, Gus Malzahn, even tweeted Saturday that the Patriots picking Stidham was the "steal of the draft."

Stidham himself seems pretty excited to join the Patriots.

Our own Patriots insider Tom E. Curran gave the Patriots' selection of Stidham an "A" grade. The pick addressed a need for the Patriots and it came at the relatively low cost of a fourth-round pick.

Stidham completed 60.7 percent of his passes for 2,794 yards with 18 touchdowns and five interceptions for the Tigers last season.

The Auburn product joins Brady, Brian Hoyer and Danny Etling on a crowded quarterback depth chart in New England. The competition for the backup quarterback jobs should be among the most fun position battles to watch in training camp and the preseason this summer.
