Allen Craig outrighted off 40-man roster

The Red Sox have suffered greatly from a lack of production at the plate. Collectively, they've performed well below expectations – their .230 batting average ranks third-worst in the MLB.

There's some eye-popping individual struggles, too. Outfielder/first baseman Allen Craig hit .135 with one homer and two RBI in 24 games this season, and was optioned to Triple A May 10. On Monday, he cleared waivers and was outrighted off the 40-man roster, the team announced.

On the team's recent 10-game road trip, in which the entire lineup struggled mightily, Craig played two games against the Blue Jays and was 0-for-7.
