Alex Smith . . . game manager?

Share

Over three seasons since joining the Chiefs, quarterback Alex Smith has 61 passing touchdowns to only 20 interceptions, or a 3.05 touchdown-interception ratio.

That ranks third in the NFL behind only Aaron Rodgers (4.53), Tom Brady (3.48), and Russell Wilson (3.33).

So, while Smith gets knocked for being a “game manager,” it should actually be a compliment since he doesn’t make mistakes that cripple his team’s chances of winning.

“It’s really important to be able to manage the game,” Phil Perry said on Reporting from Foxboro. “That gets back to something the Patriots say often, which is before you can figure out how to win the game, you have to figure out how not to lose it. I think Alex Smith does that really well.”

“What Alex has done is consistently play very good football,” adds Mike Giardi, “not turn the ball over, be accurate, and put his team in a position to win games.”
