White House press secretary weighs in on Brady, Deflategate

Deflategate, the Wells Report, and the punishment levied by the NFL against the Patriots were all topics of conversation in Washington on Tuesday.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) took to the Senate floor and railed against the league for being more concerned with the inflation level of footballs than it is with the offensive nature of the local team's nickname.

Later, on Pennsylvania Ave., White House press secretary Josh Earnest weighed in on his thoughts as they related to Brady's involvement in the controversy. The NFL handed Brady a four-game suspension on Tuesday, which his agent has said he will appeal.

"I do think that people around the world, particularly children, particularly boys, do look up to Tom Brady," Earnest said. "He is somebody who has a reputation for professionalism. He's somebody who's enjoyed tremendous success on the football field and has carried himself off the field in a way that has earned the respect of a lot of people. And I think that as he confronts this particular situation and he determines what the next steps will be for him, that he'll be mindful of the way that he serves as a role model to so many, not just American kids as you point out, but to kids around the world."
