Julian Edelman a Hall of Famer? Why Patriots WR belongs in the conversation

New England Patriots slot receiver Julian Edelman has put together a résumé of playoff excellence that's ignited a debate over whether he'll ultimately wind up as a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The 32-year-old wideout gave an excellent performance in the Patriots' 13-3 win over the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII. He tallied 10 receptions for 141 yards and was named the game's MVP -- becoming the first wide receiver to win the award since 2008.

Edelman's postseason stats are impressive, to say the least. He's played a key role in three Super Bowl titles for New England. His 115 receptions and 1,412 receiving yards are second only to Jerry Rice on the NFL's all-time playoff leaderboards.

When you look at Edelman's regular-season stats, nothing jumps off the page. His numbers are solid, but they don't scream Hall of Famer. Now, there's still time for Edelman to improve these stats, and he should be able to rack up plenty more receptions and yards before he retires.

NBC Sports Boston Patriots insider Tom E. Curran looked at Edelman's case for the Hall of Fame and noted that several players already enshrined, including Joe Namath and Lynn Swann, are in the Hall primarily because of their superb playoff performances. While Edelman still has a ways to go before we make a final decision on his HOF candidacy, Curran argues he definitely belongs in the conversation right now.
