Tom Brady has been careful in his answers and just plain avoided talking about his friendship with President Donald Trump.
But Brady and his Patriots teammates got a laugh out of it this summer when they were presented their Super Bowl 51 championship rings at the usual star-studded party at team owner Robert Kraft's house.
In the NFL Films' video of highlights from the ring party, narrated by Katie Nolan, comedian Tracy Morgan takes a good-natured shot at the Brady-Trump relationship near the end of seven-minute video.
“We all know that Tom Brady supported Donald Trump,” Morgan said, looking at Brady. “I just hope that your left tackle ain’t black or Puerto Rican next year.”
FOXBORO -- As it turns out, Robert Kraft did indeed give Donald Trump a ring commemorating the Patriots win in Super Bowl LI, but it wasn't Kraft's ring.
The Patriots owner gave the president a Super Bowl ring because the team was the first to visit the White House after a championship win. According to Patriots vice president of media relations Stacey James, Trump hoped to put the ring on display.
Earlier on Monday, Twitter caught wind of an exchange involving former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci, who said that Kraft gave Trump "the ring for last year's game." The assumption was Scaramucci meant that Kraft gave Trump his ring. Not the case.
Anthony Scaramucci isn't afraid to say stuff. This time, it involves the Patriots.
The outspoken former White House communications director follows over 180,000 Twitter accounts. One of them is @rslashpatriots, who asked about Robert Kraft's Super Bowl rings via direct message.
Putin famously stole Kraft's Super Bowl XXXIX ring while Kraft was visiting Russia in 2005. According to Kraft, he took out the ring to show it to Putin, but Putin put it in his pocket and left without giving it back.
Now that Trump has Kraft's ring, Kraft theoretically only has three of a possible five Super Bowl rings now. Guessing he could get new ones made.
