Dennis Eckersley gets Fenway ovation, does not want to meet with David Price

BOSTON — Dennis Eckersley does not want to talk it out with David Price.

Eckersley appeared at Fenway Park on Tuesday as one of the Red Sox alumni guests, standing in a suite ahead of the fourth inning and waving to the crowd.

The presence of an alum (or “legend”) on the big screen is normal. Tuesday’s loud level of applause and attention were not.

Eckersley also on Tuesday told the Boston Globe’s Dan Shaughnessy that he was ready to go forward, and uninterested to meet with Price to bury the hatchet.

“I’ve moved on. I’m just going to keep doing what I do, which is call it like I see it,” Eckersley told the Globe. “It’s all about the Red Sox and the ultimate goal of winning it all.’’

Eckersley, who had not been quoted much on the matter previously, refuted the idea he has changed his broadcasting approach to be nicer, as Price suggested Saturday. Price that day indicated he was not sorry for yelling and cursing at Eckersley on a team plane, and that attitude is at least part of the reason Eckersley has no interest in meeting with Price.

Per the Globe, which is owned by Red Sox owner John Henry, Eckersley’s ovation Tuesday did not immediately air on NESN, which is also owned by Henry.

Eckersley could be seen on the Fenway big screen telling fans how much he loved them. (There was no audio, but his lips could be read.)
