Connor McDavid injury: Oilers star likely to miss matchup vs. Bruins

The Boston Bruins probably won't have to face the best player in the NHL during their upcoming road trip that includes a swing through Western Canada.

One of the Bruins' opponents on that trip is the Edmonton Oilers, who will host the defending Eastern Conference champions next Wednesday at Rogers Place. The Oilers likely will be without superstar center Connor McDavid for that matchup. Edmonton announced Tuesday that McDavid will miss two to three weeks with a quad injury.

The Bruins and Oilers play in eight days, so unless McDavid comes back early, Boston should catch a break and not have to defend the talented forward.

McDavid ranks second in the league in scoring with 81 points (30 goals, 51 assists) through 55 games. His linemate, Leon Draisaitl, leads all players with 85 points. McDavid has fared quite well versus the Bruins in his career. He's tallied 11 points (two goals, nine assists) in seven career games against Boston, including two goals and two assists over his last three matchups.

The Bruins have two more games at TD Garden this week before beginning their road trip Sunday against the New York Rangers. The rest of the road trip includes games versus the Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames and Oilers.
